    On another forum, this clip was posted. The OP was asking if it was in fact Kuntao due to the fact that a) it didn't look like anything he'd seen before and b) because it looked very 'Karate like' in application. In other words, there didn't seem to be as much fluidity, like you'd normally see in the FMAs.

    So...what do you think? Please keep in mind, that the intention of posting this is not to bash the clip. The intention is to get feedback from the members here. :)

    When I was in Olongapo I went to a few classes with his father, Cariltos Lanada, yes that is called Kuntaw. They did what were called "X" forms from which they get their techniques.

    In the late 70's GM Lanada adapted a very Karate ish stance for the art. His reasoning was to allow Filipnos to compete in the Asian Games. At this point, escrima, arnis and silat were not part of those games and was not allowed, so yup- you do see karate. The old Kuntaw was mothballed and shelved. Too bad.
