Good day! My name is Keith and I just found this forum through Martial Talk and thought I would join. When I was in high school I practiced a Japanese art called Goju Shorei; I enjoyed it but the dojo I was in gradually strayed from traditional art to competition based art. Tournaments became mandatory and winning sparring events became a short-cut to earning rank (no test necessary if you placed 1st in sparring)! Later in life I was introduced to FMA by a friend who was involved in JKD. I found the movement and fluidity better suited my older frame and mind set. Still later I found a school in Phoenix that taught Kali...I joined without hesitation and am now training with a Guro who lives in northern Kentucky. The system I am training in is Villabrille-Largusa Kali and I am loving it!
