I've had the fortune to have had a few informal lessons in PTK taught by a PTK practitioner who's a New York transplant to the Atlanta area. Actually, he's going to school down here. Anyway, I really like PTK and want to train in it further. The more I research it the more I like it.
I am having a hard time finding anywhere that teaches strait PTK. There is this place near me that teaches the Counterpoint Tactical System and it claims it has PTK. Does anyone familiar with CTS know if it has a significant amount of PTK in it?

    Check out.

Mr. Whitson put out a tape (long enough ago that it was only available as a vhs tape on release :D )several years ago where he imported the flow drill concept from from PTK and applied it to American Kenpo. If you are familiar with PTK you will immediately see connections between what he put together for AK practitioners and core PTK material.

The second tape in the series was intended as an exposure of unarmed vs. knife from the knifers perspective, it was essentially an intro to Pekiti knife.

It sounds like it has grown into its own system, and I don't have a clue about what percentage of it is PTK, though looking at some of the recent videos, the knife material is cloned. :D

Also, PTK-GO listed a certified instructor in Atlanta.

    Good luck in your search,

The website bio for both instructors lists Zach Whitson as one of their instructors; Zack Whitson is a Pekiti Tirsia International Matass' na Guro under William McGrath. Contact information can be found here: http://www.pekiti.com/contactlist.php

I suggest that you contact him for more information about Counterpoint Tactical System and its relationship to PTK.

In conversations with my friends in PKI, Zach has always been described as a great guy with deep knowledge of Pekiti, Kempo, and more recently, Cacoy Doce Pares.

Though I can't comment directly about Zach's CTS system, I will say that he came to RI back in 2003, the first time I brought GT Gaje and Tuhon Tim Waid here. I got to spend some time training and talking with him and my impression was that he is a skilled and approachable practitioner.

I'm actually a student under Mr. Whitson, he's a great person with an incredible skill level and an amazing ability to teach. CTS is a tactical based art with elements from pekiti, kenpo, Cacoy Doce Pares Escrima, Scientific Wrestling, silat and a bunch of others. I know it sounds like a giant hodgepodge but the way it's organized works really well. The Atlanta guys are a really solid crew, I'm actually from up on the east coast but we're a pretty tight knit bunch. If you've got any other questions I'd be more than happy to answer or give you their contact stuff.
    Best wishes.
