An article in the Sept. 2006 issue of Inside Kung Fu discusses Graciela Casillas' transition to the FMAs. It talks about her training under Dan Inosanto and what she likes about the FMAs. I assume she studies the Inosanto/Lacoste blend?

At the FMA III she taught her way of Cabales Serrda Escrima.
From hat I know, this is her Main Style but she has been with Sifu / Guro Dan for quite a long time as well...
Last couple of weeks she was with the Canetes of Doce Pares in Cebu - so I dont think its justified to "label" her as purely Inosanto-LaCoste...

    Graciela Casillas-Boggs Bio

Graciela Casillas, Black Belt Hall of Fame inductee, "Women of the Year," has earned international acclaim as one of the world's top martial artist, and as a teacher of the art of self-defense. Casillas's 28 years as student, instructor, and professional competitor has giver her an eclectic approach to the martial arts, which she shares with students at home and abroad.

Casillas was the first athlete to simultaneously hold world titles in two different sports; boxing and kickboxing. After retiring undefeated with a record of 31-0, with 18 KO's she dedicated herself to teaching Defensive Tactics to law enforcement personnel and women's self-defense courses emphasizing the psychological and mental aspects of self-defense.

Casillas has 28 years of training in a diversity of styles and is a certified Defensive Tactics Trainer who specializes in working with the "small" officer and in teaching women's self defense. She is a court approved expert witness on issues relating to edge weapons, and a graduate of Executive Security International (ESI) an elite training program for executive protection specialists. She is also one of a few women to graduate from the Lethal Force Institute and is a certified NRA instructor.

Casillas was the first and only women to be certified to the advanced instructors level in Serrada Escrima, a close quarter combative system of self-defense under the late Angel Cabales. She also holds black belts in Kenpo and Jujitsu. Her devotion to the martial arts, coupled with an advanced degree in education, has led her to dedicate herself to the promotion of the art as a teacher and writer. In her role as teacher, Casillas has incorporated knowledge acquired from various arts, including her own personal and professional experiences to formulate a state of the art and highly effective personal defense system.

When not practicing or teaching martial arts, Casillas, who has a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology works full time at Oxnard College in the EOPS/CARE program.

Devotion to the martial arts, coupled with the desire to teach self-esteem and confidence-building principles is what motivates her to work with women and teenagers. She hopes to impart her experiences that may encourage others to dream and achieve their goals.

My understanding is that her boxing skills caught the eye of Anthony Davis and he introduced her to Cabales Serrada. I'm pretty sure, though not 100%, that she also trained with GM Angel Cabales. Later she trained with Guru Inosanto.

My instructor, Ed Bansuelo, learned Cabales Serrada from Anthony Davis who relayed that to him . He in turn relayed that information to me.

Angel Cabales passed away in 1991, right? Was she into the FMA already at the time?

Sorry for the late reply, Arnisador, been preoccupied with life.

My understanding, yes. Next time I see GM Anthony Davis, I will ask him. :)

Ms Graciella has been in the FMA for some time... I have seen pics of her (Playboy magazine) "training" at the Inosanto Academy from the '80's.
I have also "heard of" (okay, seen) the rest of the pictorial...WOW! anyhoo---

There is also video footage of her making a pilgrimage (of sorts) to interview GM Floro Villabrille at his home in Hawaii.
(i think at the time she was working on a book on the FMA -- not sure if it ever got published/finished.)
There was a bit of an outcry over this "visit" (not sure why, maybe to do with the "newness" of her studies of FMA at the time... and this was "back in the day"... early to mid 80's maybe?)
Talented fighter, beautiful lady, and re her FMA... I have not had the pleasure. I am aware that she did train with GM Cabales (Serrada) and at the Inosanto Academy...
Sifu Hartsell introduced me to her once... thanx for a great memory Sifu. (and a few "guy laffs" at the time too)
    God bless
