I have heard it asserted that there is a book on Doce Pares by Mr. Canete of the Eskrido system. Is this true? Perhaps it's just a training manual--I cannot find it anywhere.

Eskrido is principally what's taught in the FMA class I'm taking while temporarily in NM, and I'd like to laarn more about it!

    Eskrido

    See Don Edwards' site: www.imafit.com

See also Rich Petrilli's 3 DVD set "Crashing the Lines" (Paladin).

    Eskrido

There is also a review at www.selfdefenseforums.com Googling "cacoy" "eskrido" and "self defense forums" should pull it up.

Yes. I've got a copy of it. I bought it at his seminar circa 1990 I guess.

I think he's written another book on pangamot since then. At least, he was planning to when I spoke to him circa 1995.

The Doce Pares book is pretty basic, covering equipment, salutations, etc. Then getting into the basic angles of attack, abecedarios, and so on.

Ah, thanks! I don't know how I missed it. I just place my order!

Huh. Okay, that's not the one I was thinking of. I've got his earlier book, entitled "Doce Pares: Basic Eskrima, Arnis, Kali, Pangolisi."

Well, I'd like to find that one too! Does anyone have a lead on it?

I'm afraid not. I bought mine from GM Cacoy himself when he was visiting my teachers.

    Canete book

Ask Don Edwards. I think that he had a few copies when Cacoy was at his school a couple of years ago.

Unfortunately, the book I ordered never came (nor was I charged). I did find this news story about it.

The book arrived yesterday! They e-mailed me recently apologizing for having misplaced the order. I also received D. Canete's espada y daga book. Alas, in two weeks I will no longer be an Eskrido student, though, when I move back to Indiana.

GM Cacoy will also publish a DVD. Check out www.imbvideo.com

@arnisador: do you get your copy of the 2005 Eskrido book?

Yes, but unfortunately not until I was about to be no longer studying the art. Still, I'm glad to have the reference--and I'm a bibliophile anyway.
